Chinese painter calls for the establishment of a credibility-rating system for the country's art market

A Profile of Wang Xijing

Wang Xijing, born in August 1946 in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, is a famous painter specializing in traditional Chinese painting.

Over the past four decades, Wang has completed over 5,000 works of art and published over 60 collections of paintings and essays. He has held more than 30 overseas art exhibitions in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Britain, France, Thailand and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

He has many awards and honors, including the International Academy Award and Medal of Culture and Education from the Japanese Government in 2000, the golden medal in the Exhibition of the International Festival of Fine Arts held by China, Japan and the ROK, and a special prize at the Beijing International Festival of Fine Arts in 2003, and another special award at the France International Exhibition of Fine Arts Salon in 2005. Last year, his 18-meter-long traditional Chinese painting, Yellow River, the Mother River, became part of the permanent collection in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Wang is now a director of the China Artists Association; vice president of the Shaanxi Federation of Literary and Art Circles; and president of the Shaanxi Artists Association. He is also a professor at several colleges and universities in China.
