Professor Lu Xiaobo, Dean of Department of Information Art and Design at Tsinghua University, gives a keynote speech at the third International Conference on Interaction Design in Beijing on November 16 (YU LINTAO)

The third International Conference on Interaction Design (ICID 2013) was held at Tsinghua University in Beijing from November 15 to 17, attracting about 500 scholars, representatives from enterprises and researchers and enthusiasts from China, Japan, the United States, Australia, Britain and Sweden.

Advancements in the sciences and technology, new forms of art and design, and record levels of consumer demand and consumption, have pushed interaction design to a tipping point.

From human-computer interaction to social networks, graphical user interfaces to intelligent environments, the intersection of design and technology drives the innovation to change people's lives. But the diverse and complex nature of design problems has extended beyond the traditional scope of interaction design. By leveraging other fields through interdisciplinary work, interaction design is bound to reach new heights.

Against this backdrop, ICID 2013 hosted by Department of Information Art and Design at Tsinghua University and in association with Carnegie Mellon University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, examines this new phase in interaction design. Experts from industry, academia, education, and research circles have reviewed the discipline's accomplishments, opened new dialogues, and looked ahead to future possibilities.

During the conference, participants also shared their problems, solutions and ideas on the diverse and complex nature of interaction design.

Famous scholars including Professor Lu Xiaobo, Dean of Department of Information Art and Design at Tsinghua University, Professor Dan Boyarski from Carnegie Mellon University as well as Dean of the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Professor Cees De Bont gave keynote speeches.

In addition, the conference also organized five workshops on the new development of the discipline, discussing interdisciplinary educational models and curriculums of interaction design and sharing cutting-edge breakthroughs in various industries and successes in interdisciplinary collaborations.
