Samuel Kamau Wansiru of Kenya crosses the finish line at the National Stadium. Wansiru won the gold with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes and 32 seconds, breaking the Olympic record set by Carlos Lopes of Portugal at the 1984 Los Angeles Games by 2 minutes 49 seconds. It's the country's first Olympic marathon gold. Jaouad Gharib of Morocco finished second. Tsegay Kebede of Ethiopia won the bronze

Rhythmic Gymnastics--Group All-around

Silver medallists team China (in yellow) and gold medallists team Russia wave to the audience at the award ceremony. Defending champion Russia won the country's third consecutive title in the event with a total of 35.550 points. China won the silver, its first Olympic medal in the event, in 35.225. Belarus settled for the bronze in 34.900
