Zhou Huaiyang, professor of the School of Marine and Earth Science at Tongji University in Shanghai, waves after completing his journey in China's manned deep-sea submersible Jiaolong in South China Sea on June 18.

With the scientist as its first "passenger," Jiaolong's missions this time included experiments on its positioning system, biological surveying and geological sampling in the Pacific Ocean.
