Sophisticated Italian menswear brand Caruso, backed by Shanghai-based investor Fosun, launched its first retail location with an expansive new flagship store in New York on November 14.
The store becomes the ultimate showcase for Caruso, which makes suits for companies including Christian Dior. A sweeping gallery welcomes visitors and creates a linear perspective that draws the eye to the first of Caruso's many wonders. All of the material used in the store comes from Italy, including the oak flooring as well as the strikingly veined terracotta tiles that are made from two different color clays from the floodplains of the Po river, close to Soragna — the area where Caruso was founded in 1958.
Fosun, which bought a 35-percent stake in Caruso last year, will help Caruso target their increasingly affluent consumers. This is the first Chinese company foray into luxury menswear.
"Caruso is one of the best menswear brands in Italy and also master in a manufacturing art of menswear, it combined both brands and financial potential," said Patrick Zhong, Fosun head of global investments. "People have the increasing demand for high quality of life. We look to Caruso for using its competitive edge as a top quality lifestyle brand for the global market."
Caruso will open its first Chinese store in June 2016, located in Fosun's Shanghai Bund International Financial Center, said Sophia Huang, China manager for Caruso.
