July: PLA Opposes U.S.-South Korea Military Exercises

The U.S. aircraft carrier USS George Washington takes part in U.S.-South Korea joint military drills on July 27. Ma Xiaotian, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), said on July 1 that China "strongly opposed" the exercises.
