President Hu Jintao Meets Pakistani PM

Chinese President Hu Jintao has met visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at the end of his 5-day visit. Hu Jintao said 60 years on since the establishment of the formal diplomatic ties, the bilateral ties have stood the test of time.

He stressed that China unswervingly adheres to its foreign policy of peace towards Pakistan and dedicated to enhancing the strategic partnership of the two countries. He said China is willing to work closely with Pakistan to advance their all-climate friendship and expand cooperation in all fields. Hu Jintao said the two countries need to maintain high-level exchanges and close consulations on issues concerning their core interests. He listed some priority areas to strengthen cooperation, including infrastructre, energy, agriculture, trade, finance and science.

He also pointed out for long-term development, the two countries also need to constantly promote exchanges in culture, education and media. He said China appreciates Pakistan's efforts and contributions to global anti-terrorism campaigns. He said China stands ready to strengthen security dialogue and coordination with Pakistan to crack down on terrorism, drug-trafficking, and cross-border crimes.

For his part, Gillani said 60 years on, the bilateral ties have progressed steadily in all fields and it's the shared conviction of Pakistani people and major political parties to advance vigorous ties with China. He said Pakistan is willing to further enhance practical and mutually-beneficial cooperation in all fields and coordinate their stances in international and regional affairs and constantly update their strategic partnership.
