Relief work in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has entered its fourth day, after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit the region on June 30.
No major outbreaks of disease in the region have been reported so far. Epidemic prevention efforts are underway. Twelve medical staff have arrived in the area most severely hit, to conduct disinfection of tents and livestock shelters.
The tremor hit the mountainous area along the border of the Hejing and Xinyuan counties. More than 150-thousand people have been affected. More than seven-thousand buildings have been destroyed and many more severely damaged. (CNTV.cn July 3, 2012) |
