In my opinion, with more traditional festivals becoming holidays, the May Day holiday should not be abolished. Although the recent investigation by the government shows that most people support this reform, many people, including me, think the bug in the design of the questionnaire created this answer. The questionnaire just left no space for us to give detailed opinions, and merely asked questions like "Do you think traditional festivals in China should become national holidays?" Of course, we want to get new holidays for the traditional festivals. But that does not mean we support the abolishment of the May Day holiday.
Many people who supported this suggestion think that the same holiday for the whole population caused problems, such as transportation congestion and unexpected burdens on scenic spots. But the holiday is not at the root of all these problems. Chinese people do not have a long holiday until the start of the Golden Weeks. Besides these three Golden Weeks, including spring festival, we have no other holidays at all. We can only travel during these holidays. If the government abolished the May Day holiday, that would just cause more people to travel on the National Day holiday or spring festival.
To start a holiday chosen by the organization and the individual, instead of the uniform holiday, seems perfect. But that cannot be realized in China, especially for enterprises, which are always busy in all kinds of competitions. In the end, only government employees who designed the program can reap the benefits. That is UNFAIR!!!
