Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Sunday that he hoped the contacts between the central government and Dalai Lama yield positive results.
Hu, who is scheduled to visit Japan from May 6 to 10, made the remarks during an interview with journalists from 16 Japanese media organizations stationed in Beijing.
Hu told the Japanese journalists that judgments should be based on a person's deeds as well as his words.
He also confirmed that Chinese central government officials would meet with private representatives of the Dalai Lama on Sunday in view of the requests repeatedly made by the Dalai Lama side for resuming talks.
"Our policy on the Dalai Lama is clear and consistent, and the door of dialogue remains open", Hu said.
He hoped the Dalai Lama side would take concrete actions to stop violent crimes and activities involving disruption of the Beijing Olympics and splitting the motherland, to create conditions for further consultation.
