The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of China's State Council on November 5 condemned U.S. politicians who threatened to impose sanctions against government officials and judicial personnel of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

The rule of law in the HKSAR has received wide recognition from the international community, said a spokesperson of the office, adding that safeguarding national security and the rule of law in Hong Kong are the duties of HKSAR officials and judicial personnel, which brook no interference.

The threats made by certain U.S. politicians to impose sanctions on them run contrary to the spirit of the rule of law and turn a blind eye to international justice, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson noted that this arrogant act reflects their hegemonic fantasies, which only indulge them in the delusion of the past, exposing even more of their true nature of being bluff and bluster.

The stunts of certain U.S. politicians will only strengthen the determination of HKSAR government officials and judicial personnel to safeguard national security, said the spokesperson, adding that no external interference can stop Hong Kong's progress to order and prosperity.

The central government firmly supports the HKSAR in fully and faithfully implementing the Hong Kong national security law and resolutely safeguarding national security and the rule of law, and the central government spares no effort to protect the legitimate rights and interests of government officials and judicial personnel in Hong Kong, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson warned those U.S. politicians to immediately stop all kinds of political manipulation. "Otherwise, they will only end up shooting themselves in the foot," the spokesperson said.
