Hello and welcome to the 33rd issue of Beijing Review.
Cover Designed by Cui Xiaodong COVER STORY Thinking Aloud is about China's golden age for its think tanks. In the past 40 years, they have multiplied, and are now a key tool in improving governance, advancing modernization and keeping an eye on China' s reality. Despite good progress, they still face challenges in providing a larger pool of talent that can communicate internationally, deliver creative concepts and present Chinese wisdom to foreign thinkers. WORLD Moving Forward looks at Pakistan's recent election and the political awakening of its people and the hopeful mood in the country. They hope Imran Khan and his PTI party can bring about positive change by reforming governance, rooting out corruption and boosting jobs and education. And China's friendship with Pakistan continues to be strong. CULTURE International Treasures is about how museums' cultural and creative products have become a success with Chinese consumers. The British Museum launched products this summer on China' s e-commerce site Tmall and sold out most of the items within the month. Domestic museums have also had success by thinking outside the box to design products that reach a wider audience. Copyedited by Pamela Tobey Comments to linan@bjreview.com |
