Hello and welcome to the 33rd issue of Beijing Review.
(Cover Design: Cui Xiaodong) COVER STORY A Recipe for Good Health looks at China’s new comprehensive health initiative, the Healthy China Action Plan for 2019-30. It advises that everyone should take primary responsibility for their own health and gives tips and plans for achieving it, all based on scientific research and practices. BUSINESS No Real Winners analyzes the current state of the U.S.-China trade war as a lose-lose situation. More tariffs have been added by the U.S. and they will ultimately damage the U.S. economy by shifting the cost burdens onto American companies and consumers and causing job loss to the middle class. In the end, it may even knock the U.S. economy into recession. CULTURE Animated Dreams looks at the surprise domestic movie sensation of the summer, Ne Zha. The animated film — a tale of a mythical figure adapted from a renowned Chinese novel, Investiture of the Gods — has surpassed popular Hollywood animations and broke the single-day record for an animated film in China. It could pave the way for a more mature industrial system producing China’s animated films. Copyedited by Pamela Tobey Comments to linan@bjreview.com |
