Africa and the Middle East are the major regions that Chinese soldiers participate in UN peacekeeping missions as the two are the main trouble spots around the globe. Since 2013, South Sudan has been troubled by civil conflicts with many of its people displaced and homeless. And Chinese army since then became an important force in the peacekeeping mission in the country.

When a new round of fierce armed conflict broke out in Juba in early July, some countries including Britain, Germany and Sweden withdrew their staffs in the UN peacekeeping mission in the country. However, though some Chinese peacekeepers sacrificed their lives, the rest held fast to their positions.

By far, China has sent 14 batches of Chinese peacekeeping force to Wau. This September, the 14th Chinese peacekeeping force in Wau will finish their task in the mission area and return back to China. In the one-year-long mission, the 14th Chinese peacekeeping force has accomplished 260-plus urgent, difficult, dangerous and heavy tasks. Its engineer detachment renovated the important material supply lines of South Sudan with building road over 600 kilometers and its medical detachment gave medical treatment to more than 5,100 patients/times with conducting 47 surgeries.
