Chinese Actors Shine in Berlin

Wang Jingchun and Yong Mei won the Silver Bears for Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in So Long, My Son at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) on February 16.

The film, directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, is a family saga spanning 30 years. Masterfully brought to life by the two leads, the story of one family dealing with the loss of its son moved many viewers to tears at Berlinale.

Born in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1973, Wang graduated from the Shanghai Theater Academy. He won the Best Actor Award at the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2013 for The Police Diary.

Yong Mei, from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, graduated from the University of International Business and Economics and has performed mostly supporting roles in a number of films and TV dramas.
