Xin Xin

Swimmer Xin Xin won the first gold medal for China in open water swimming in the history of the world championships on July 14.

The 22-year-old finished in 1 hour, 54 minutes and 47.20 seconds in the women's 10K open water swimming at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju, the Republic of Korea.

She also qualifies for the 10K open water marathon at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Japan.

Xin had already made history when she broke the Asian record in the women's 800m freestyle competition at the 2013 National Games of China in Liaoning Province.

Born in east China's Shandong Province, Xin learned to swim at the age of 6. She was a long-distance freestyle swimmer before shifting to 10K open water swimming six years ago.
