In his report delivered to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which opened on October 16, Xi Jinping reviewed the progress of the past, and laid out the missions and tasks of the Party as it continues into the new era.

The report says that from this day forward, the central task of the CPC will be to lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a concerted effort to realize the goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.

The Party has adopted a two-step strategic plan: realizing socialist modernization to a large extent by 2035; building China into a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful from 2035 to the middle of this century.

The next five years will be crucial for getting China's efforts off to a good start. For instance, China must apply the new development philosophy that calls for innovative, coordinated, green, open and inclusive development, continue reforms to develop the socialist market economy, promote high-standard opening up, and accelerate efforts to foster a new pattern of development that is focused on the domestic economy and features positive interplay between domestic and international economic flows. The country must build a high-standard socialist market economy, modernize the industrial system and advance rural revitalization.

Due to reasons such as inflation, the pandemic and geopolitical conflicts, the world economy suffers a mounting risk of a downturn. New development opportunities are more precious than ever.

China is committed to its fundamental national policy of opening up to the outside world and pursuing a mutually beneficial strategy. It strives to contribute its share to building an open global economy that delivers greater benefits to all peoples.

The 20th CPC National Congress once again sends the world a strong signal of China's opening up and its determination and actions to create new opportunities for the world with its own development.
