Situated deep in mountains in Qianxi County, Guizhou Province in southwest China, Huawu Village is known for its natural splendor, boasting breathtaking cliff views and vast water bodies, in addition to the unique features of the Miao ethnic culture. Once reeling under extreme poverty, Huawu had a poverty headcount ratio as high as 63.6 percent. But through the development of tourism and other industries, all households in the village had risen out of poverty by 2017. Last year, the per-capita disposable income of the villagers was 11,500 yuan ($1,769). During this year's weeklong Spring Festival holiday in February, the village received nearly 200,000 visitors, with all homestays and hotels fully booked, making close to 100 million yuan ($15.38 million) in revenue.
