Yan'an, located in the northern part of northwestern Shaanxi Province, is renowned as an iconic revolutionary base in the history of the Communist Party of China. It is also a city with a long history and a colorful culture.

For example, there are exquisite paper-cutting techniques which require dedicated craftsmanship. There is also Xintianyou, literally meaning rambling in the sky, a folk music style characterized by a free, bold rhythm and sonorous vocals. Both the paper-cutting art and the waist drum dance of Ansai District are on the national intangible cultural heritage list. These cultural resources are conducive to developing the tourism industry and can serve as a catalyst for development.
