The seventh national population count kicked off on November 1. Nearly 7 million census takers started going door to door to document information of residents.
China is facing the pressure of a large population and the challenge of demographic transition. The census data to be published in April 2021 will be used for making important resources, population and policy decisions.
The most recent census, in 2010, recorded a population of 1.37 billion.
