Su Yongjun is a graduate student majoring in law at Tsinghua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. In September 2020, he participated in a joint program established by the two Tsinghua universities on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, studying in Beijing. This year, he became a volunteer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
Despite his heavy academic workload, Su has been working for the Haidian-Taiwan Youth Family, a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation and exchanges between students from Taiwan and Beijing’s Haidian District. Over the past year, he has served as a guide for approximately 100 students from Taiwan to participate in exchanges with the Winter Olympics organizers, visit Olympic competition venues, experience ice and snow sports, and learn Winter Olympics-related knowledge. After being selected as a volunteer at the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Games, he received both online and offline training, covering pandemic prevention and control measures, emergency rescue in the venue, and the daily English required by voluntary and legal services.
Su said after completing his studies in Beijing, he would continue to take up the role of a bridge between students and other young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. He also believes that his professional knowledge is very useful in promoting cross-Straits exchanges, especially in cases where legal issues are involved.
"In the future, I will more actively share China’s stories with the world from a Taiwanese student’s perspective, as well as make greater contribution to cross-Straits exchanges and the peaceful development of the relationship between the mainland and Taiwan," Su said.
