Garrison police officers often work under harsh conditions to maintain peace and order on the frontier. In Aksu Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, it can take several days to complete a patrol in extreme weather such as snowstorms.
Xinjiang, which accounts for one sixth of China’s total land area, shares a 5,700-km border with eight countries--Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, more than any other provincial-level administrative region.
