Chinese President Xi Jinping made his seventh consecutive appearance at the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Osaka, Japan, on June 28-29, reaching new consensus with other state leaders and heads of international organizations on bilateral and multilateral relations. It demonstrated China's high attention to multilateral cooperation on this platform and global economic governance.

The Osaka Summit, the 14th G20 Summit, was held at a critical time when the global economy is again at a crossroads. Envisioning a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humanity, Xi focused on promoting multilateralism, partnership, mutually beneficial cooperation and joint development, as well as providing guidance for both the world economy and global governance.

Recently, the spread of unilateralism and protectionism is disrupting international rules and order, leading to a slowdown of global economic growth. This is the moment when the world needs to advocate multilateralism more than ever.

The Chinese president called on the G20 members to follow the major trend of development, embrace development opportunities with greater openness and seek win-win results with better cooperation. He made a four-point proposal suggesting a way for the global economy to address the challenges it faces.

Stressing that the Chinese economy is registering a stable performance with a good growth momentum, Xi outlined China's latest

measures to further open up its market, expand imports, improve the business environment, advance free trade agreements, and boost regional economic integration.

On the sidelines of the summit, Xi attended a meeting of the BRICS nations, the China-Russia-India leaders' meeting and the China-Africa leaders' meeting as well as a series of bilateral meetings. His packed diplomatic agenda marked China's efforts as a reliable and responsible major country with broad visions and workable solutions.

During the meetings, Xi called for more efforts to promote global governance based on the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. He said the international system should be safeguarded with the UN at the core and the international law as the foundation. The multilateral trade regime should be preserved with the World Trade Organization at the core. Multilateralism and free trade should be promoted, and an open world economy built. China's advocacy of multilateralism is winning more understanding and support from the international community.

The meeting between Xi and U.S. President Donald Trump also reflected China's commitment and efforts to build consensus, enhance understanding and promote global peace and development.

All this shows that China has become a driving force for global economic growth, promoting openness and providing a major market for other countries to explore business opportunities.
