Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivers a report on the work of the 13th CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee at the opening meeting of the second session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 3 (XINHUA)

Chinese political advisors will better perform their duties in rallying public support, building consensus and pooling people’s wisdom and energy for a concerted effort to achieve the development goals of the country.

“Given both the urgency and formidable nature of our task and the severity and complexity of the risks and challenges before us, it is vital that the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) serves and protects the overall interests of the country and implements the decisions and plans of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC),” Wang Yang, Chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, said while delivering a work report to more than 2,100 political advisors at the opening meeting of the annual session of the CPPCC National Committee in Beijing on March 3.

Wang said the CPPCC is an important political and organizational vehicle for implementing CPC-led multiparty cooperation and political consultation. As the principal actors in this political organization, CPPCC members must take up their political and historical responsibilities in earnest and devote their efforts to building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

The CPPCC should fulfill its role as a consultative body and help the CPC and the government hear the views of the public and bring together people’s ideas, he said.

“We should focus on difficult issues, identify potential risks and dangers and report social conditions and popular sentiments to provide the Party and the government with valuable proposals and suggestions to resolve issues and defuse risks,” Wang said.

He stressed that the CPPCC will continue to work to build consensus and promote unity among the people.

“The CPPCC must strike a balance between commonality and diversity and seek common ground while reserving or easing differences,” he said.
