Lin Wusun, eminent translator, interpreter and journalist whose work was to introduce China to the world, passed away on January 27 at the age of 93.
Lin was president of China International Publishing Group (CIPG) from 1988-93 and executive vice president of the Translators Association of China from 1992-2004. In 2019, CIPG honored him with a life-achievement award.
As a philosophy major, he thought he could explain the Western way of thinking to the Chinese and explain China to the West. Among his best-known work is his English translation of The Art of War, described as Asia's most famous ancient military treatise.
He participated in the founding of Beijing Review in 1958. Later, he became associate editor in chief and the acting president of BEIJING REVIEW.
