Zhang Ning
Chinese badminton player and Olympic gold medalist, Zhang Ning, has been officially inducted into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame during a virtual ceremony hosted by the sport's world governing body on June 16.
The brilliant all-round player was victorious at nearly every major event on the circuit, including the BWF World Championships in 2003, and guided China to team triumphs at the Uber Cup (2004, 2006) and Sudirman Cup (2005, 2007). She also won the women's singles Olympic gold medals consecutively in 2004 and 2008.
Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng, two more Chinese Olympic gold medalists, also received the honor. In a video message to the ceremony, BWF President Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen said, "Their performances are an illustration of the excellence that the human spirit can aspire to. They have contributed immensely to badminton, and I'm sure they will continue to inspire players of the future."
