Since entering the express industry in 2013 at the age of 20, Ma Shiguang has delivered more than one million parcels. With 200,000 km on the odometer, his deliveries have taken him across five times the Equator's length.

Ma, Operations Manager of YTO Express' Gaoqiao Branch in Changsha, Hunan Province, is a delegate to the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, the opening session of which took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 16.

He started working for the branch eight years ago at an entry-level position and gradually climbed his way up to the management level. Under his supervision, the branch’s business volume has amplified threefold—with few customer complaints.

During a postal industry skills competition in 2017, Ma ranked first among 50 competitors in terms of individual comprehensive ability. Basic practical skills aside, it also tested their understanding of digital operations and business management.

Ma has been invited by Hunan Modern Logistics College to share his experiences with students. He insists on teaching them for free. "As a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, besides doing my daily job, I should also participate in non-profit activities to serve the people," Ma said. For instance, he makes sure to distribute information on telecom fraud prevention among his senior customers as the elderly are a major target of these illegal activities.

Ma cares about the individual development of ordinary couriers and has brought many related suggestions to the local government. What are their essential needs? How can they reduce complaints from the public? Some of his proposals have been accepted. For example, every courier in Changsha is now covered by work injury compensation insurance. "This has brought us a sense of security," Ma said.
