Pakistan is set to screen five films at the 2025 SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Film Festival, taking place from July 3 to 7 in Yongchuan District, Chongqing.
Speaking at the festival's opening ceremony, Minister of State for Education and Professional Training, Ms Wajiha Qamar expressed pride in Pakistan's participation, highlighting the selection of films as a vibrant reflection of the country's creativity, culture, and storytelling spirit.
"These films are more than just artistic achievements, they mirror the hopes, struggles, and dreams of the Pakistani people," the minister said.
Ms Wajiha Qamar also emphasized the enduring and evolving relationship between Pakistan and China, describing it as a timeless bond rooted in shared history and strengthened over generations. "Calling each other iron brothers is not a mere expression—it reflects a partnership tested by time and enriched by mutual support," she remarked. The minister added that Pakistan, China, and other SCO nations remain committed to building a shared future by embracing common values and fostering cultural connections through cinema.
The festival, organized by the China Film Administration and Chongqing's municipal government, seeks to enhance people-to-people exchanges among SCO member countries. It features 11 main activities, including screenings, forums, a film technology expo, and a gala concert. Awards will be presented in ten categories, such as Best Film and Best Director.
In total, 27 films from SCO countries have been submitted, with a carefully selected lineup being screened throughout the festival.
Yongchuan District has rapidly become a center for film and television innovation, housing more than 100 production companies and state-of-the-art facilities such as a 3,000-square-meter virtual production stage and a 5,000-square-meter sound stage.
