Representatives from the College of Life Sciences, Shihezi University and the University of Haripur recently held a symposium on microbiomics, unveiling plans for joint frontier academic exploration.
Professor Syeda Asma Bano from the University of Haripur shared her team’s latest breakthroughs in molecular plant pathology, biocontrol, and beneficial microbes targeting soil-borne crop diseases. Professor Sun Yanfei from Shihezi University exchanged insights on plant-microbe interaction mechanisms and rhizobacteria functional analysis. The two sides agreed to leverage their respective strengths in arid-region microbiology and molecular biology to advance practical cooperation. Planned initiatives include applying for joint international research grants, establishing joint postgraduate training programs, and conducting academic exchanges, media reported. As China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enters its 2.0 version, the growing academic ties between China and Pakistan have been reflected in the practices of Shihezi University.
To date, it has built extensive partnerships with the University of Haripur, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University and other Pakistani institutions across life sciences, information technology, agriculture and basic sciences, covering covering joint research, faculty and student exchanges, joint graduate programs, and the co-construction of laboratories.
Besides institutional cooperation, the university has also run training programmes on agricultural water-saving technologies for Pakistani professionals.
