COVER STORY

Theory of Common Good discusses the diplomatic thought of Chinese President Xi Jinping, outlined in a recent speech delivered to the Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs. Against the backdrop of increasing international uncertainty, Xi’s concepts can guide China and the world toward a fairer system of global governance and a community with a shared future for humanity.

40 Years of Reform and Opening Up

City on the Rise tells the story of Jinjiang, a city in southeast China’s Fujian Province. Over the past 40 years, Jinjiang has developed in tandem with the country’s reform and opening up, and is a microcosm of China’s economic success story. Home to some of China’s most iconic sportswear brands, the city is aiming to stay relevant and maintain its prosperity in the new era through the integration of traditional and hi-tech industries.

Essay

Large, But Still Developing is a response to a white paper published by the State Council Information Office on China and the World Trade Organization. The author argues that attempts to classify China as a developed country do not stand up to scrutiny, with the country’s GDP per capita, income distribution, and environmental status still far behind those in the West, despite the achievements of reform and opening up.
