As China's capital for some 800 years, Beijing is home to some of the country's largest and oldest palaces, parks and imperial gardens, and after months of freezing weather, spring is the most spectacular time to watch these landscapes come to life. Once reserved for the private use of the imperial family, these ancient sites now make up part of the network of public green spaces around the city.
