The Yuehe historical area in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, is a microcosm of riverside towns located south of the Yangtze River. Winding rivers embrace the ancient town, which dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), like a crescent moon, hence its name, which literally translates as "Moon River."
Since 2003, Jiaxing has restored many traditional residential buildings in the area and turned it into a destination for visitors to take in the distinctive cultural heritage south of the Yangtze. The place attracts millions of tourists every year.
