Chengdu, hometown of the giant panda, is ready for a world-class sporting event. From July 28 to August 8, it will host the 31st Summer Universiade of the International College Sports Federation. The Universiade will include 269 events in 18 athletic disciplines.
The Universiade Village on the Chengdu University campus can accommodate about 11,000 people.
Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in southwest China, is the third city on the Chinese mainland to host the event, following Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, in 2011.
