Students from the United States were joined by Chinese peers in a visit to the summer resort of Guling, also spelt Kuliang, in the mountains above Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on March 25. The visit was part of a program marking the 40th anniversary of the sister relationship between Fujian and Oregon State.

Beginning in 1886, Kuliang was a popular destination for members of Fuzhou's expat community to escape the heat of the city, with more than 330 villas built by families from more than 20 countries. During the visit, students learned about the thriving summer community that was formed there by expats and locals, as well as the broader history of China-U.S. exchange.
