The exhibition 1980s×1990s Time Unfinished opened at Beijing's Taikang Art Museum on March 30, and will run through June. Featuring 42 seminal works from the museum's collection, 26 of which are being shown publicly for the first time, it presents a wide range of artistic mediums, including sculptures, oil paintings, photography, installations and digital art. Together, they transport viewers back to China's transformative 1980s and 1990s.
Among the highlights is Yuan Qingyi's oil painting Spring Has Come, created in 1984. The piece is recognized as a pioneering work of the '85 New Wave avant-garde art movement. It conveys the enormous influence of the country's reform and opening up, initiated in 1978, on the Chinese intellectual life.
