The general plan for developing Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) during the 2020-40 period has been in force for one year. The plan promotes integration between Macao and the other parts of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the SAR's industrial diversification, and the conservation of its historical and cultural heritage. Developing the Greater Bay Area is one of the key national strategies mapped out and promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
