On September 21, 2021, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Development Initiative (GDI) as means to steer global efforts toward a new stage of balanced, coordinated and inclusive growth. He made the proposal in a statement delivered via video at the General Debate of the 76th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. The GDI calls for maintaining a shared commitment to prioritizing development, to a people-centered approach, to benefits for all, to innovation-driven development, to harmony between humans and nature, and to results-oriented actions.Over the past three years, the GDI has been widely received with enthusiasm by the international community.President Xi Jinping has, on many occasions, underscored the importance of promoting global development. Xi is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
