President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, inspected Lishu County, Jilin Province in northeast China on July 22. He learned about grain production, the protection and use of black soil, as well as mechanized and large-scale farming. Edited excerpts of Xi’s speeches since 2018 follow:

China's food production was strong in 2019, which provided a solid foundation for food supply. Grain output was 663 million tons, almost 0.9 percent more than the 2018 level.
